It’s probably no surprise that nature is our first love. We came up with the prototype Pirani tumbler because we wanted to save our precious beaches and oceans from pollution. A lot has happened since we first began. And in 2020 our mission took a massive step forward. We became a member of 1% for the Planet!

One Percent For the Planet Member

1% for the Planet is an ongoing initiative that involves companies in environmental efforts. The founders (Yvon Chouinard and Craig Mathews) of 1% for the Planet bonded over a shared love for the natural world and quickly realized the impact of giving back. So they eventually came up with a brilliant concept - what if businesses contributed one percent of their revenue (regardless of profit) toward conserving the Earth?

Paying Tax to Mama N

It’s not too much to ask for since businesses depend on nature for valuable resources, and by paying this “tax,” they essentially safeguard the precious supply for generations! 1% for the Planet supports diverse environmental nonprofits via dedicated brands and personalities like singer-songwriter Jack Johnson.

1% For the Planet

Through a careful partnership advisory process, 1% for the Planet connects businesses and environmental nonprofits with aligned objectives. Each partnership fosters a deep sense of solidarity and motivation, resulting in a tireless drive to solve some of the most pressing environmental issues.

There is no Planet B

As you might know, Pirani tries to get involved with environmentalism  as much as we can. The Earth is the only home we know, and we need to protect it! Plastic pollution remains a significant threat, especially with rising globalization and commercialization that sees non-biodegradable packages used in nearly every lifestyle setting.

Humans produce 300 million tons (equivalent in weight to the entire human population!) of plastics each year, with more than half used for single-used products. Additionally, 91% of plastics aren’t recycled. Recycling plants usually reject small single-use items like disposable straws, bags, and cutleries, as they fall into the gaps in processing machinery. As a result, many unwanted plastics get deposited into our oceans, where they break down into harmful microplastics. (NOAA)

Microplastics in our ocean

Beautiful sea life is suffering from microplastic consumption, and some of these creatures are caught and sold as seafood. Our families end up consuming the very plastics dumped into the oceans. The whole process illustrates the cycle of life and how our actions directly affect us. It’s more than just a cause, and it’s time to take a stand for a safer environment.

How is Pirani giving back?

With our acceptance into the 1% for the Planet community, every Pirani purchase translates to a direct contribution to the environment.  Other giveback programs we currently have in place include Contribute Sustainably which you can learn more about here. Though some of these contributions can be smaller than others due to the size of our company, The more Pirani grows, the more we look forward giving back even more to organizations that protect our planet.  We also have some programs in the works that will stand by our mission and help make an even greater positive impact for Mama N!

Here are some organizations that we have supported through our Contribute Sustainably program:
