Plastic-free July in a Plastic-Happy World
#LifeGoals for a Plastic-free July in a Plastic-Happy World
July is the month of good old-fashioned patriotism, pride, and summertime celebration in America. We’re geared to raise our cups to commemorate the nation of the brave and free.
The season offers the ideal weather conditions for some fresh air and quality time with people who matter. But as we soak in the sun, it’s also time to slow down and consider the consequences of our celebrations - and ask ourselves, what are we doing for dear beloved Mama N? Check out our Plastic-free July poster below and download for your office, home office, or any place you would like to spread some sustainable tips to celebrate!
Remembering The Oceans
70% of the Earth is occupied by the oceans. These vast bodies of water provide us with most of the precious oxygen we need to survive. Yet, single-use plastics continue to creep into the oceans and seas. These toxic, synthetic materials are gradually broken down into tiny variants known as microplastics, which are consumed by sea creatures. These oceanic feeders are subsequently caught and sold as seafood.
Horrific as it might sound - yes, plastics are a direct threat to our health. Now seems like a great time to join the Surfrider Foundation’s USOA campaign toward the greater sustainability of our beloved oceans. Society is well-acquainted with the achievements on land, it’s time we turned our attention to the waters.
Remembering Our Roots
As the nation pays tribute to its establishment, we at Pirani Life are reminded of our humble origins. Pirani Life founders, Danielle, and Brandegee are native Floridan water babies who have personally witnessed the prevalence of plastic pollution.
Specifically, the red party solo cup was a notorious culprit that infested the shorelines of Florida’s pretty beaches. And it was that saddening sight, which inspired the creation of the prototype Pirani Party Tumbler. Some partygoers might rally behind the idea that disposable cups are biodegradable - so they’re less guilty. Yeah? Well, biodegradable cups are insidious.
The Pirani Life team stays true to the original promise behind our mission - our ergonomic insulated tumbler is really the last cup you’ll ever need. Let’s #partysustainably this July by swapping out those disposable eyesores with reusable alternatives.
Remembering the Power of One
The pandemic has brought numerous challenges to our eco-friendly practices. Masks, face shields, and other disposable healthcare products are contributing to the widespread use of single-use plastics. But we shall not be deterred!
BYOC (Bring your own cup) practices are still given the green light in most fast-casual restaurants and while reusable bags may be barred from some stores, you could always wheel your trolley to the parking lot and unload items straight into the trunk of your car. You could support local grocers and farmers’ markets (summer is perfect for produce) that follow sustainable practices.
Additionally, there are smaller ways to do your part for the environment, such as considering the need before printing (most documents are digitally available anyways) and requesting sustainable alternatives before settling on a purchase (bamboo is a top choice). While you’re at it, why not take the opportunity to revamp your workplace into an eco-friendly office?
Let’s be honest. Our efforts might seem futile at times, especially when we’re scrolling through dishearting environmental news, with scary statistics to boot! But let’s remind ourselves to never discount the power of one. We can make a monumental difference together when each person plays a small role.
July is the month of national remembrance and summertime festivities, and we’re pumped for it. See you at the party and BYOC!
